Hoarding links and creating a directory of internet knowledge

Over the years, I've visited many websites while on a hunt for difficult-to-find information about obscure or simply obsolete things. As I found the information I wanted I simply absorbed that knowledge and moved on. This behaviour made me extremely knowledgeable on a bunch of things, but has left me with no history, and no way to share my journeys. Specially as I get older, I'm realizing that many of the things I once knew by heart have faded away and need refreshing. Searching for some of these topics again has sometimes not yielded the same results, both due to the enshittification [1] of search engine results, but also due to some of the websites that contained such information going offline and no longer available in the search engine indexes. This has lead me to great frustration, as I took for granted that the internet was forever and that information would always be available. This week this cycle has repeated itself as I needed some information on how MS-DOS's disk management works and a website that I vividly remember containing everything I needed in great detail is nowhere to be found. To finally break this cycle I have decided that it's about time I get up from my lazy ass and build a simple page to catalog everything I find of interest while on my internet journeys. Inspired by links pages from other members of the community such as matto [2] and sizeof(cat) [3], I decided it was about time that this website got its own links page as well. The goal of this page is to provide a living directory of the internet's knowledge as I stumble upon new topics or as I'm researching and deep diving into a specific topic or project. A curated, categorized, and commented selection of links that contain valuable information about any given topic of my interest. I imagine the page will grow exponentially and become a mess, but at least the information will be there, indexable, and if I'm diligent, every page will be backed up to the Internet Archive [4]. Let's help preserve the internet's knowledge! [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification [2]: https://box.matto.nl/links.html [3]: https://sizeof.cat/links/ [4]: https://web.archive.org
